What we do
Bridge Humanitarian, Inc. is tackling the housing crisis for refugee families by building tiny house communities for incoming refugees in the State of Maryland. The homes will be 1,000 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 1 ½ bathrooms, with a kitchen, living room, and laundry closet.
What is a Refugee?
Refugees are people who have fled their countries to escape conflict, violence, or persecution and have sought safety in another country.
Refugees are some of the best tenants a landlord can have in their homes. They are respectful and eager to start a new life.
How does the US refugee system work?
There are 117.3 million forcibly displaced people worldwide. Annually, the United States determines how many refugees they will allow in the country. In 2023, the United States accepted 125,000 refugees in total. The State Department manages the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, or USRAP. Since its creation in 1980, more than three million refugees have been accepted into the country. Each state can choose how many refugees to accept and resettle within their borders.
The State of Maryland Refugee Population
Maryland’s largest group of refugees come from Afghanistan. The average refugee family is made up of 7 individuals. A family of 7 needs a dwelling no smaller than 3 bedrooms. Finding housing for large families in a safe and affordable environment can be extremely difficult.
Bridge Humanitarian’s Tiered Rent System
All tenants will be on a tiered rent system that will gradually increase until the 3 year lease is up. All rent will be discounted and be well below market price. This is to give refugee families a chance to create a small savings and adjust to the United States before finding permanent housing 3 years after arriving in the United States. Bridge Humanitarian, Inc wants to promote self-sufficiency and self-reliance while still offering a helping hand to refugee families starting over in the United States.
Working with Resettlement Agencies
Resettlement agencies assign case workers to every new family to aid them in finding employment, housing, and other essential services. Bridge Humanitarian, Inc is not a resettlement agency, but a partner in providing housing for incoming refugees.
Join us in helping our new American citizens have a safe and affordable fresh start in the United States.
